Learning Environment

Our preschool room reflects the culmination of the children’s learning over the past 4-6 years. Our preschool program gives children in the Kookaburra and Emu room independence, encouraging them to follow their interests and create their own learning while preparing for primary school. In our dedicated pre-school centre, we provide all our children with the opportunity to commence their journey towards a life of full self-expression.

Children are developing a strong sense of individuality, direction, communication skills, and independence in structuring their day. For this reason, we tailor our approach to focus on each child’s unique strengths, interests, and needs. Our flexible daily routine ensures that children have the freedom to engage in opportunities across various learning areas, including science, mathematics, pre-reading, pre-writing, social and emotional development, as well as fine and gross motor skills.

The preschoolers have their own dedicated building and play spaces to maximise their full potential while exploring a variety of learning opportunities. We feel this is an important factor in their preparations for school.

We believe social and emotional learning is the foundation for successful relationships, resilience and self-belief, which forms a strong platform for transition to school. We cultivate a supportive team environment where children feel empowered to independently discuss issues with their friends and embrace their individuality.

Our goal is for each child to transition into the school environment seamlessly and with confidence!

Learning Opportunities

In an educational setting tailored for children aged 4-6 years, learning opportunities are crafted to align with the Australian Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and dispositions of learning therefore fostering comprehensive development across various domains. We value the opportunity for children to experience a variety of learning through excursions and extra curricula opportunities such as; Stella Studioz Lets Make Noise program which runs by term. Our Preschool qualified educators provide the Emus and Kookaburra children with many learning opportunities.

  1. Active Exploration and Inquiry: Educators encourage children’s innate curiosity by providing hands-on learning experiences that promote exploration and inquiry. We offer opportunities for scientific experimentation, nature exploration, and project-based learning to stimulate children’s curiosity and foster a love for discovery. We encourage children to ask questions, make hypotheses, and engage in critical thinking to deepen their understanding of the world around them.
  2. Communication and Language Development: Educators cultivate language-rich environments where children can develop strong communication skills and express themselves effectively. Educators encourage storytelling, dramatic play, and group discussions to promote language development and expand vocabulary. We provide opportunities for children to engage in meaningful conversations with their peers and educators to enhance social interaction and language fluency.
  3. Social and Emotional Learning: Educators support children’s social and emotional development by fostering positive relationships and teaching important social skills. We provide opportunities for cooperative play, teamwork, and conflict resolution to promote empathy, cooperation, and emotional regulation. Educators help children develop a sense of belonging and build self-confidence through positive reinforcement and praise for their achievements.
  4. Creative Expression and Imagination: Educators nurture children’s creativity and imagination through art, music, and imaginative play. We provide a wide range of art materials and encourage children to explore different mediums and techniques to express themselves creatively. We strongly believe children should be able to freely explore process art rather than product driven craft. Educators support dramatic play by providing props, costumes, and open-ended materials that allow children to role-play and engage in imaginative storytelling.
  5. Physical Development and Well-being: Educators promote physical activity and healthy habits to support children’s overall well-being and development. We offer opportunities for active play, outdoor exploration, and structured physical activities that develop gross motor skills, coordination, and spatial awareness. We teach children about the importance of nutrition, exercise, and personal hygiene practices to foster healthy habits for life.

By providing a supportive and enriching learning environment that aligns with the EYLF and dispositions for learning, educators can empower children aged 4-6 years to thrive academically, socially, emotionally, and physically, laying a strong foundation for future success.
